Posting #13 – A tragic example

Delegate Lohr and Senator Obenshain,

RSOL of Virginia sent an e-mail to your offices yesterday titled "Dissemination of Information".
In our e-mail we pointed out that current registered sex offenders are not notified when restrictions and regulations involving their lives have been changed by the General Assembly.

RSOL of Virginia has asked all the Virginia delegates to consider and write a bill for the 2009 General Assembly that would notify all offenders when the laws have been changed.

Tonight we came across this article,
http://www.dnronline.com/details.php?AID=33453&CHID=2

If this report is in any way accurate then what has happened to Robert Breighner is clearly wrong. It's obvious that the recent law change was not meant to criminalize a person trying to help their own child. As this new law currently stands Robert had unintentionally violated it. Had he been given notification of the recent changes in laws regarding registered sex offenders we're sure he would not have put himself at risk.

His particular case is such a travesty of justice in your district that we feel you must help us in passing this bill during the 2009 GA.

In the interim if there is anything you can do or say to intervene; as this persons delegate, in this particular case, please allow your conscience to help Robert.

He was just trying to be a good dad.

Sincerely,
RSOL of Virginia
