Posting #131– Who’s Fault, Mine or Theirs?

RSOL of Virginia,

I have recently gotten caught up in a little bit of a mess.

When changing my address at the court house they did not change my mailing address only my physical address. The re-registration letter was mailed to the wrong house. By the time I realized I had not received my letter I was 10 days late for re registration. I immediately called the state trooper who handles my case. He seems like a decent man and doesn’t have a personal vendetta against me like some in the past have. I am not really sure who's fault this is. Mine or theirs? Of course he said it is mine.

However, he told me that since I contacted him before any action was taken against me he would intervene when the case came down to him, which he said it undoubtedly, would. To make this clear my address was changed correctly and shows correct on the registry. Only my mailing address remains the same. I have never had a problem with this before and don’t know how I made this mistake.

Also, when changing my address some one changed my employment status to not employed. When I went to the courthouse today to get this all figured out. The lady said that my job was on file with the correct address. The trooper told me that if the state police say its so then it is. So what he is saying is that was not employed these last few months at the job that I went to everyday, Hmm. That’s strange. My boss remembers me being there. My coworkers remember me being there. I certainly remember being there. But the state says I was unemployed so I it is.

I am just frustrated over this. This is the third time something like this has happened in the last 3 years. One of which I plead to on the advice of my idiot public defender when they said I had to register every month because I was a violent sex offender. And then three months after convicting me they sent me a letter saying I wasn’t violent anymore. Funny how that works huh?
