Posting  #151 – Election Day and the Raptor System. What Will Happen?

By:  RSOL of Virginia

Virginia Board of Elections and Virginia ACLU,

Good morning.

I am the organizer for Reform Sex Offender Laws of Virginia.

With the November Election Day around the corner I am looking for an answer to a new issue.

In Virginia any Registered Sex Offender that was convicted of a misdemeanor offense retains their right to vote. Also in Virginia no Registered Sex Offender may be on school property UNLESS they are a registered voter and they are on the property to vote on a Primary or Election Day.

This past August Chesterfield County Public Schools installed the Raptor system, http://WWW.raptorware.Com/ which scans the identification of everyone who visits the school property, http://www.nbc12.com/Global/story.asp?S=10998274
There may be other Virginia school's that also have this system as well.

On Election Day will these Raptor systems be turned off in all the schools that have them to allow those who are permitted to be on school property to cast their vote?

RSOL of Virginia,

All precinct polling places are directly linked to the local registrar office in the locality that is located. Yes they have to follow all regulated established rules as given by the local registrar office in which all rules are the same across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Your concern should be handled by the local school board administration.

We do not regulate or have the authority to dictate how a system is being implemented in a local school system.

I'm sorry it does not fall under something we regulate.
