Posting #173 – Information You Need To Know!

Virginia Supporters,

We need to clarify some information because we've received three e-mails in the past two days that tell us you and your family members don’t understand how carful a RSO must be.

Probation officers aren't on this earth to help you stay out of trouble they actually look for reasons to re-incarcerate you or your loved one; it’s a revolving door (a money maker).

When you are on probation you can not just move to another state without receiving written permission from the Virginia Department of Probation.

Registered Sex Offenders whether under probation or not if they re-offend in anyway it doesn't matter if the new offense was sexually related or not; leaving home without your GPS, failing to register new information or on-time, getting a DUI, failing to pay child support or violating any probation rule raises the recidivism statistics for ALL registered sex offenders. In the states eyes the ex-offender failed to obey the rules and stay out of trouble so the recidivism rates for sex-offenders increases which is misleading because they didn't re-offend sexually.

Since Civil Commitment was passed in Virginia they've increased the crimes to civilly commit from 4 to 28. If you or your loved one is sent to prison because of a new violation when that prison time has been completed if the original sexual offense is now on the list for civil commitment consideration (no matter how long ago that conviction occurred) you or your loved one could now be facing civil commitment simply because you failed to register or because you got a DUI. Is this fair or just? No, it's not but it is reality.

So in summary, as a registered sex offender a probation violation or a minor new crime skews the recidivism rates for ALL registered sex offenders could result in prison time and possibly civil commitment.

If this is new information to you please take it to heart, we want everyone to succeed and to stay with their families.
