Posting #212 – Try Calling in Your E-mail Updates to the VSP and Let Us Know if it Works!By: RSOL of Virginia Virginia Supporters, We received some information from a great supporter of ours who was responding to Bulletin Board Posting #206 in regards to the 30 minute rule. That’s the 30 minute requirement in the Virginia statute for registered sex offenders to report ANY changes in e-mail addresses or instant message identifications. The current system does not allow for compliance. How is someone supposed to change their e-mail address and get to a VSP Barracks within 30 minutes? Knowing that the Virginia State Police Barracks are only open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm and are closed on weekends and any observed holiday is for administrative work how can 15,500 registered sex offenders comply? Per a supporter, RSOL of Virginia, About a month ago, I was about to be issued a new email address through my church. I called the VSP Trooper assigned to do home visits in my area. He gave me a number to call at the barracks in order to speak to a Trooper who does this over the phone. I called and verbally gave him the additional email address to post to my account, and within a few minutes I received an e-mail confirmation. I just called the number again and I was told its answered 24/7. So we want to know if this works. Anyone that needs to change, delete or add an e-mail address or instant messenger identification please try calling this VSP phone number before jumping into your car to speed down the interstate in order to register the change within the 30 minute window you have been given by the lawmakers. We want to know if it the phone number works or if it doesn’t. Were you still told to come in person to make the change? Please keep us posted. Thanks.
