Posting #7- Rebecca's Story

RSOL of Virginia,

It sounds like you guys are busy.  I read the documents you sent in the email just a bit ago.  Your story shocks me and I can totally understand why you are fighting to help us.

My fiancé was convicted in 1999.  He had been dating his girlfriend at the time for a couple years who was younger than him.  When he turned 18 and his girlfriend was only 15, then the mother of the girl turned him into the police.  She did not approve of their relationship and wanted vindication.  He served 2 years in prison and was on supervised probation for a few years.  When he got out of prison he and his girlfriend had two children together.  He and I were just friends at the time.  Those two eventually broke up and he and I started dating.

In January, it would have been his 10 years and he would have been able to go in front of the governor to request he be cleared, but now that is not going to happen.  Since they just changed the laws over the summer, he is now considered a violent sex offender and must register every 90 days for the rest of his life.

He is having a hard time finding a better job and our neighbors in the community are scared to talk to us.  He wants to be able to vote in elections, but he is not allowed.  He cannot go see his children at school or pick them up.  It tears him up emotionally and hopefully we can change things.  My fiancé and I live in Northern Virginia.  I will contact you in December when I am done with finals so I can help with the mailing lists.  For now, I will mail you some stamps to help with the postage costs.  Thank you again for taking on this enormous task!

With care,
Rebecca
